Jewellery Care

... how to care for your jewellery

All jewellery is susceptible to tarnishing over time and sterling silver more so as it has been alloyed with copper. A humid environment, beauty products, chlorine, salt water can all help towards tarnishing.

To keep your jewellery looking new and clean there are a few steps you can take.

1. Store your jewellery in the right way, away from humidity either in a small pouch, a small self seal nylon bag or a small jewellery box, away from sunlight. If you can, store your pieces separately as precious metals can mark easily if they rub against each other.

2. Keep solvent based products (nail polish, nail polish remover, perfumes etc,) away from jewellery containing resin.

3. Clean your piece with a touch of mild soap like Castille soap, and gently rub it with a soft cloth. A soft brush (child’s toothbrush).will help get grime from hard to reach places.

4. Your jewellery will come with a tiny polishing cloth. You can use this to polish you piece but take care not to use it on any areas with resin or any darkend (oxidised) areas.

5. Do not immerse any piece with resin in it into hot/boiling water.

6. Silver dip can be used to remove tarnish from silver and fine chains in particular. Do not use silver dip on any pieces that have been oxidised, on pieces containing resin and on pieces containing soft gem stones and pearls.

7. Don’t use harsh cleaning products, for example bicarbonate of soda on your jewellery. Harsh products and rubbing can remove the surface of the silver and over time will deplete and special finishes.
